Man hanged in south-west Iran PDF Print E-mail

Iran Focus - A young man, Makki Jaradi, was hanged earlier this week in Ahvaz, in the south-western province of Khuzestan. He was charged with drug trafficking.
 
Another man, Karim Sheteyetpour, was informed by Karoon Prison officials in Ahvaz that he will be hanged in the next few days. He is also charged with drug trafficking.
 
In the past, United Nations Rapporteurs on Iran have confirmed that Iran routinely executes dissidents on apolitical charges, such as drug smuggling.

Academic activist sentenced to 6 years of prison PDF Print E-mail

Committee of Human Rights Reporters - Rasoul Bodaghi who has been charged with participating in gatherings with the intention of disrupting national security and propagating against the government was sentenced to 6 years of prison and a 5 year ban on party activism.

This member of the Managing Board of the Iran Teacher Association who is also a member of the Solitary Council for Democracy and Human Rights in Iran was trialed in the 15th branch of the Revolutionary Court headed by Salavati.

He is also one of the former heads of the Human Rights Activists in Iran and is currently jailed in cellblock 6 in Rajayi Shahr (Gohardasht) Prison in Karaj.

Tongue of Kurdish Political Prisoner Amputated PDF Print E-mail

Image Kurdish Perspective - The website Kurdish Perspective reports that Evin prison interrogators have amputated the tongue of Matin Arjan, a Kurdish political prisoner from Batman, Turkey. He is currently in critical condition and risks death. In the past year [in prison] Matin Arjan has suffered from two strokes and paralysis in his legs.

Tortured view of justice from a brutal regime

The Washington Times - The Islamic Republic of Iran has a habit of throwing rocks at its perceived enemies, but the Mullahs in Tehran are slowly learning that the civilized world will not countenance the practice. Iranian officials last week commuted the sentence of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani , a 43-year-old woman who had been sentenced to death by stoning for adultery. But all is not well yet.

When news of Mrs. Ashtiani's sentence began reaching the outside world in recent weeks, it prompted an international outcry.

Report on mass executions in Mashhad PDF Print E-mail

Iran Press News – According to information from a prisoner of conscience in the Vakil Abad Prison in Mashhad, 64 people were executed on August 11 or 12, 2010 (in one day) in this prison. Most of them were charged with trafficking narcotics and similar crimes. Thirty others will be executed in the next two days.
