325 Iran political activists arrested in one month

In the 31 days of the month of Khordad (May 22 – June 21), 325 citizens were arrested for political activities or protesting against the government.

From the beginning of the month of Khordad, arrests have increased and on the first anniversary of the presidential election (protests), a large number of protesters who came out on the streets were arrested.

Death sentence for six opposition activists

AFP - The death sentence for six opposition activists arrested in protests after last year's disputed presidential election in Iran have been confirmed, Tehran prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi said Saturday.

The six were accused of belonging to the exiled and outlawed People's Mujahedeen, the opposition group the Islamic republic's regime calls "the hypocrites."

Three were arrested after opposition protests during the Shiite mourning holiday of Ashura last December, Dolatabadi said, naming them as "Ahmad Daneshpour Moghadam, Mohsen Daneshpour Moghadam and Alireza Ghanbari."

Declaration by High Representative Catherine Ashton on behalf of the European Union on the execution of five individuals in Iran

The European Union strongly condemns the executions on 9 May 2010 in the Evin prison of Iran of Shirin Alamhouli, Farzad Kamangar, Ali Haydarian, Farhad Vakili and Mehdi Eslamian.

The European Union is profoundly concerned by the repeated sentencing to death in Iran of people belonging to minorities, as well as of those who were involved in the post-election protests. The EU is opposed to the death penalty in all circumstances.
